Rigid conical indenters of various weight, of half angle 30, 45, 60, and 75 deg were made to impinge normally on blocks of duralumin, copper, and lead at various speeds. Among other things the resulting indentation diameter is shown to be related to the velocity at impact raised to approximately the power 2/3. The experimental results here reported confirm those of previous workers but interpretation of them is different.
