This special issue on Mesh-Based Geometric Data Processing consists of 10 papers selected from 27 submissions. Although covering quite diverse technical issues, these 10 papers share a common theme of effective generation, representation, conversion, adaptation, and evaluation of a geometric mesh, a subdivision of a geometric domain into mesh elements such as triangles, quadrilaterals, tetrahedrons, and hexahedrons. Mesh-based geometric data processing plays a key role in various computer applications, including computational mechanics, computer graphics, geometric modeling, and reverse engineering.

Despite our initial concern that mesh-based geometric data processing may be too broad a theme to be covered by 10 papers in a single special issue, we feel that the final collection of papers presents a coherent view on the latest trends and important research topics. The two unifying themes of this special issue are application diversity and mesh quality and adaptation.
