Ergonomics is a term derived from the Greek words ergon meaning “work” and nomos, meaning “natural laws of” or “study of.” Ergonomics is therefore defined as the study of the natural laws of work, in particular, the relationship between the worker and the work environment. The work environment includes the workplace, tools, parts, materials and work processes required to combine these elements. The work environment may be as simple as a hammer or as complex as the cockpit of a sophisticated aircraft.
